Trip #2 - 11 Days to Florida and Back
Just a few months after our maiden voyage within our beautiful hometown (read about it here), we set off for a Christmas break trip to warmer temps!
We left the Day after Christmas bright and early - no time to get dressed for this - she’s gonna travel in her pjs.
Our first stop was the Ben Morton Overlook at the Tennessee - North Carolina State Line. It was perfect place if you’re looking for a beautiful view and a spot to get out and stretch your legs a bit. There was plenty of RV parking for us too! If was a foggy day but the views were still beautiful.
Next up, we stopped for a waterfall hike (my favorite!) and this was the mother load. Deep Creek Trail waterfall loop NC has 4 beautiful waterfalls! This 2.5 mile loop worked great for our little kids but we kept it interesting by stopping a lot to snack, trading Zoey, and just generally taking our time.
SITES
Creekwood Farm RV Park, Waynesville, NC
Finally, we arrived at our destination. Creekwood Farm RV Park located in Waynesville, NC.
This place was great for the boys to exlore. We parked right along the creek - which is my favorite thing to do - and just let them explore. We stayed for 2 nights and it was the perfect resting point before we moved on to our next location about 9hrs away.
Campground Details: Great throwing creek, could be a great place to swim in the Summer! Sound of the creek was very relaxing. There is a park area but no playground. We were there in December so it was pretty quiet.
Sites: We stayed in site 56 or 57 right up against the creek. All sites are gravel along with the roads. We think the best sites could be along the river and maybe the least desirable would be the sites 79-88, and 89-100 only because they are backed up next to other sites and do not have visible creek views.
Jellystone, Madison FL (Now called Ragans Family Campground)
Jellystone was where we would spend our NYE. Ragan’s Family Campground has since taken over so this review will cover the basics of the campground. This place was so fun for our kids and looks like it’s still a great place to stay!
Campground Details: The waterpark would be great in the warmer months. The fishing pond was great, there are plenty of activities for the kids like putt putt, gaga ball, train rides, arts and crafts etc. There are some pretty great ATV trails here also.
Sites: We stayed in site 51 on Happy Avenue (the map is the same as was then) and it was a perfect location to be close to all the fun. They boys would run over and play gaga ball and we could keep a good eye on them. It was nestled in the trees a bit too which would be great in the heat of FL summer. Best sites would be anywhere along Happy Avenue and least desirable would be anywhere away from the pool and field. You would need to bring (or rent) a golfcart, it’s a large campground.
John Prince Park, Lake Worth, FL
This was our final destination! John Prince Park is a recreation area in Lake Worth, FL near South Palm Beach which was about a 10min drive. This location worked for us for taking day trips to Boynton Public beach and Lion Country Safari.
Campground Details: Very quiet. Mostly retired couples. Paved streets and community fire pits only.
Sites: We stayed in 96 or 97 right along the lake which was peaceful in the evening. We even got a glimpse of iguanas climbing into the trees. Good sites would be anything along the lake. If you have kids maybe 48 and 46 would be great because you’re by the lake and the playground.
Pints: We didn’t visit a brewery but we did eat dinner at 2 Georges Waterfront Grill in Boynton Beach and it was delicious! We highly recommend it. IF we were in the area for breweries we’d likely visit Mathews for a pint or two.
Our way back to Ohio was a quick drive with one or two pit stops for the kids (and Steve) to stretch. One of our favorite was High Falls State Park Jackson, GA. We noticed it had a campground and would definitely keep it in mind for the future.
